Creativity is essential. While many artists have known this fact for centuries, academia and business leaders have increasingly accepted creativity in the past few decades. Nova Community College (Alexandria Campus), considered a leader in student-centered learning and practices,  has created yet another learning space dedicated to both students and faculty alike to enhance their intellectual muscles, creatively. TILT (Technology Innovation in Learning and Teaching) is an active learning space where teachers and students can come to work on a variety of assignments and projects with multimedia. ” TILT is essentially an open place where students and faculty can participate in workshops, receive one on one support and utilize an area as a Think Tank/ Maker Space. We are happy that the space was a result of 80% repurposed equipment and materials, ” stated Kirstin Riddick, TILT Coordinator at NOVA Alexandria Campus.

The room, equipped with state of the art cameras, green screen technology, and computer for editing purposes is ideal for students interested in stretching themselves beyond average standards. Students can sign the room out with the TILT office for usage on their respective assignments and school related projects.

The entire TILT team is extremely excited about the possibilities of learning opportunities and potential collaborations with students, student groups and of course faculty. “The Multimedia Makerspace was an idea that came from faculty and students. As technology becomes more intuitive and mobile, we wanted a space that would help students create multimedia projects.   Faculty are also incorporating more collaborative group work, and the maker space allows our students to experiment with various technology tools. Technology mixed with creativity can transform a student’s educational experience, ” stated Dr. Frances Villagran-Glover, Dean, Learning and Technology Resources.
