Congratulations Poetry Contest Winners!

The judges of the annual Annandale student poetry contest are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s contest.  In First Place is Robert Trexler for his poem entitled, An Old Man.  Second Place goes to Cheri Jansen for Harassment in Afganistan.  Nathan Moore wins Third Place for While We Were Down on Earth.   Best wishes to all of the winners.Please join us for a reading of their work and presentation of awards on Wed., April 18, 2-3:30 PM. Everyone is invited to participate in the open reading and enjoy the refreshments that follow.

We thank all of you who participated in this event and encourage you to keep writing.  There’s always next year’s contest!

ESL Students Speak Out About National Library Week

ESL professor Shirley Nuhn and her students from ESL 33 are helping the NOVA Annandale Library celebrate National Library Week, which runs from April 8th-14th, and School Library Month, which spans the entire month of April. This year’s official American Library Association-sanctioned theme is “You Belong @ Your Library”. Take a few moments and listen to these students talk about why they feel they belong at their library, and find out about some of the resources that the library has to offer you – for school, for work, or for home.

On April 2, 2012 the Annandale Campus Library held its Third Annual Edible Book Festival. The event is an homage to food and literature that encourages the ingestion of culture and its fulfilling nourishment. In keeping with that theme, distinguished judges Charlotte Calobrisi, Dean of Language and Literature; Janet Sass the Assistant Dean of Hospitality; and Benita Wong, professional chef presided over the event. In one and one half hours students, faculty, and staff consumed 7 large cakes, 1 little bunny cake, a large trifle, and a mud pie. The Festival is a yearly event that is held all over the world.
