Semmler Surpasses $700,000 Donation Milestone

Executive Director John Ruffino, Dean Abe Eftekhari, Dr. Barbara Saperstone, Dr. Richard Semmler and President Robert G. Templin, Jr. enjoyed a reception in Semmler’s honor.
On Wednesday, May 16, Dr. Richard Semmler, mathematics professor at the Annandale Campus, was recognized by the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation (NVCCEF) at a reception in his honor. President Robert G. Templin, Jr., Provost Barbara Saperstone, Dean Abe Eftekhari and NVCCEF Education Director John Ruffino congratulated Semmler on giving more than $700,000 in donations to NOVA.
Semmler surpassed his original goal to donate $500,000 to NOVA in 2009 and continues to provide support for the Ernst Center, student scholarships, faculty and staff grants, technology projects and the Pathway to the Baccalaureate program.
Additionally, his philanthropic spirit reaches beyond the College, as he volunteers his time to various charities, including Habitat for Humanity, Central Union Mission in Washington, D.C. and SUNY Plattsburg, his alma mater. Another recent donation will support a housing project in La Florida, Peru, where 10 houses will be built. Five of those houses are being funded with a $30,000 gift by Semmler. A street there will be named Avenida Richard Semmler in his honor.
