Alexandria Celebrates National Career Development Month

Alexandria Celebrates National Career Development MonthDuring the month of November, more than 40 Alexandria Campus students and community members celebrated National Career Development Month by taking advantage of several workshops hosted by Alexandria Career Counselor, Crystal Young.

The month kicked off on November 2 with the Jump Start Your Future event, presented by GAP Inc. for Community Colleges. GAP Inc. for Community Colleges partners with NOVA as part of a nationwide initiative to prepare students for
the world of work. Topics covered in the half-day
workshop included communicating effectively,
time management and job search to job offer. Alexandria Celebrates National Career Development MonthLunch was provided and two eligible participants were awarded $600 scholarships. Other workshops included a Resume Skills Building Workshop presented by a Verizon Human Resources representative, providing an employer perspective on the best way to present yourself via your resume, and an Interviewing Skills Workshop presented by GAP Inc. for Community Colleges.

In addition to career-related workshops, career services for Alexandria students include individual
career counseling, occupational exploration
resources, career assessment and interpretation,
online career resources and an annual job fair
in the spring. Alexandria Celebrates National Career Development MonthStudents and community members can learn about upcoming workshops by visiting the event calendar on NOVA’s website. Students, faculty and staff can look for updates sent to their Virginia Community College System email accounts.
