The Faculty First Year Experience meets on the last Friday. The location of the meetings changes each time so that by the end of our year together you will have seen each campus and will understand the huge and wonderful cloth that is NOVA’s whole. Your main emphasis for your first year is to be about teaching, although that’s surely not all we’ll do.
Our First Year will be built of three interwoven pieces:
Resources and Tours. When we meet on your specific campus, your CETL Faculty Associate will have created a resource fair for your own campus resources. We’ll invite all of the campus faculty and staff and it will be a great networking opportunity for you on your own campus. The rest of the new faculty will join us at 11:30 and everyone will meet the provost and have lunch and tour your campus.
Policies and Practices. Both VCCS and NOVA and, of course, CETL, want the main concentration of your first year to be about teaching, but we won’t forget the practices and college wide resources that you have available to you and your students. This ‘main’ part of your day begins at 11:30 when the entire faculty convenes.
The Teaching Institute. The main emphasis of our First Year Experience is on teaching and as soon as we’ve had lunch, we’ll spend the rest of our time together working on specific aspects of Teaching at NOVA. You’ll find this informative, helpful and really worthwhile.
