Workforce Development Division offers New Real Estate Finance Online Course

The Workforce Development Division is proud to announce a new and exclusive online web series, Mortgage Banking Bound, presented by Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), the national association which represents the entire real estate finance industry. Mortgage Banking Bound is designed to complement a student’s current coursework at NOVA and provide access to the world of the real estate finance industry and the possible career opportunities it presents.

Students interested in participating in Mortgage Banking Bound will gain knowledge of mortgage lending by industry experts, have access to MBA member-only benefits, networking opportunities with MBA’s leading member companies and professionals as well as explore industry careers. On September 17, 2014 the Workforce Development Division in collaboration with the Office of Global Studies and Programs delivered a presentation to a delegation of nine Russian higher education administrators. Janet S. Clarke, a Business Development Manager for the Workforce Development Division provided a 30 minute presentation on how NOVA’s Workforce Development Division interacts with the local community and meets the training needs of local industry sectors. Janet also discussed the importance of continuous engagement with the business community.  This engagement gives the college the ability to develop education solutions that best address the skill needs of the business community.  The result of this engagement is long term economic growth for the region.  The presentation was well received by all in attendance.

 

New Northern Virginia Praxis Testing Center

We are pleased to announce that the NOVA Workforce Professional Test Center will be offering the computer-delivered PRAXIS/School Leadership Series tests beginning on July 14 through July 26, 2014. The host for this new testing center is Northern Virginia Community College.  The new testing center will be conveniently located at 7630 Little River Turnpike, Suite 600, Annandale, VA 22003. The PRAXIS/SLS tests are used for the licensing and certification of teachers, principals, superintendents, and other school leaders. These tests measure candidates’ knowledge and skills and is a requirement for the state of Virginia. Candidates may register to test at our location at www.ets.org/praxis and check for information about our August 4 through August 16, 2014 testing session.

 

Workforce Development Division Offers Continuity Areas of Business Course

NOVA’s Workforce Development Division is offering a new course, led by a professional in the Continuity Support Program Office, Department of Homeland Security.  The course is designed to help managers and security professionals within your organization know how to respond and recover from a natural or manmade crisis, this course will outline four basic continuity areas – Continuity of Operations (COOP), Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Information Assurance (IA) and Counterintelligence and Risk Management (CI/RM), and explain how to implement each of them into your business planning. Learn how to integrate these continuity areas into your business planning and implement them when necessary.
