CHM 101 & CHM 102 – Introductory Chemistry I-II
- Provides a general background in chemistry for the non-science major.
- Prereqs:
- CHM 101: Satisfactory placement scores for ENG 111 and MTH 151 (or complete units 0-5 of MTT)
- CHM102: Satisfactory completion of CHM 101 or its equivalent
- Who should take it:
- non-science majors needing to fulfill a science requirement
- students entering the NOVA nursing program
- CHM102 is not offered at Alexandria Campus. It may be taken at Annandale
- Does not count for the A.S. in Science, science requirement
CHM 111 & CHM 112 – General Chemistry I-II
- Explores the fundamental laws, theories and concepts of Chemistry for the science major.
- Prereqs:
- CHM111: Satisfactory placement scores for ENG 111 and MTH 163 (or complete units 0-9 of MTT)
- CHM112: Satisfactory completion of CHM 111 or its equivalent
- Who should take it:
- Science majors: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering
- PreHealth Students: Medical school, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Dental, most BSN and PA programs.
CHM 241 & CHM 242 – Organic Chemistry I-II
- Introduces the fundamental chemistry of carbon compounds.
- Prereqs:
- CHM241: Satisfactory placement score for ENG 111 and satisfactory completion of CHM 112 or its equivalent
- CHM242: Satisfactory completion of CHM 241 or its equivalent
- Who should take it:
- Chemistry majors
- PreHealth Students: Medical school, Pharmacy, Dental, some BSN and PA programs.
CHM 245 & CHM 246 – Special Organic Chem Lab I-II
- Introduces methods and procedures used in the present day organic laboratories.
- Prereqs:
- CHM245: CHM241 as a pre or co-requisite
- CHM246: Satisfactory completion of CHM 245, CHM 242 is a pre or co-requisite
- Who should take it:
- Chemistry majors
- PreHealth Students: (some only require one semester) Medical school, Pharmacy, Dental, some BSN and PA programs. Check requirements for specific programs.
CHM 260 – Introductory Biochemistry
- Explores fundamentals of Biological chemistry
- Prereqs:
- Satisfactory placement score for ENG 111 and satisfactory completion of CHM 112 (or its equivalent)
- Who should take it:
- recommended by some pre-health programs.
- Note: Chem/Biochem majors should take 300-level, two semester Biochemistry after transferring.
