Open Computer Lab and Classrooms Overview
Open Computer Lab (OCL)
The Open Computer Lab manages the following computer classrooms at Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria Campus:
In the AA Donald L. Bisdorf Building rooms AA160, AA332, AA414, AA415, AA416, AA428, AA444, AA446 and AA447. In AE Engineering Building rooms AE204 and AE206. In AT Tyler Building room AT133.
AA332 Open Lab (New Open Lab)
This is our main open lab for students. This lab is available to all students without any interruptions, since classes aren’t scheduled at this location. Staff members are available during the hours of operation to help in the Open Lab or in any of the computer classrooms listed above. This lab is equipped with iMacs, Dell Touch Screen computers and Dell PCs.
AA444 Mac Lab
This is our main Mac Lab that is utilized for multimedia classes. It is used by students working on multimedia projects when there are not in session.
AA416 Cyber Security Lab
This lab is used for Cyber Security and Networking classes. All computers here are equipped with dual screen monitors. Students are permitted access to this rooms outside the schedule class hours. However, they must be enrolled in one of the cyber security class.
AA160 World Languages Center (WLC)
Room AA160 is the World Languages Center and functions as a classroom and open lab for students learning new languages. The OCL staff are there to help students with the language software and information during open hours. The WLC has many programs and activities for language students to get together and practice. Please visit the lab during the open hours.
AE204 and AE206 Computer Aided Drafting Labs (CAD)
Rooms AE204 and AE206 are primarily classes for Computer Aided Drafting and other engineering and design classes. Room AE206 serves as an open lab between classes. Team OCL is available during the hours of operation to assist with assignments and projects.
AT133 Piano Lab
Piano Lab is a classroom with computers and pianos. It is located on first floor of the Tyler Building Room AT133. Open labs hours are provided to students to work on their music related projects. Assistance with musical instruments and software is available during the Open Lab hours. Software includes:
- Auralia for listening/ear training
- Musition for learning music theory
- Garageband and Logic Pro for music recording/ editing programs
- Sibelius music notation software
- Finale music notation software
