6th Annual Cherry Challenge Welcomes New Participants and Reigning Cherry Champs “Cherry Challenge Week” is February 2 through 8, 2014!

The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee in Alexandria proudly announces the sixth annual Cherry Challenge.  In the spirit of the old cherry tree tale, we are celebrating George Washington’s important presence in his hometown by inviting Alexandria restaurants to participate in this culinary contest!  We urge everyone to patronize the participating restaurants during the week of February 2 through February 8, 2014…and vote for your favorite CHERRY drinks, starters, entrees and desserts.

To participate, all you need to do is to enjoy the menu item that includes CHERRIES.  During this week, each patron who orders the item will have the opportunity to submit a ballot on which they rate the item on taste, creativity, and presentation.  At the end of the week, the ballots will be collected, and tallied.

The winners of the competition will receive an invitation to march in the largest George Washington Birthday parade in the country (taking place at 1 p.m. in Alexandria on February 17, 2014) the winning restaurant’s name and featured menu item announced from the parade grandstand during the parade, handsome plaque that can be displayed at the restaurant, press releases and promotional material sent out via social media and to area publications announcing the winners.
