Round Table – Putting STEAM into STEM – Rebecca Kamen’s work explores the nexus of art and science. She has exhibited and lectured all around the world including NIH, MIT and many other world class institutions. Hear her talk about her experiences and inspire discussion about how the boundaries of art and science are more fluid than we think and how each discipline can inform and inspire the other.

Women’s Center and Psychology Department team up to show “Crazy Like Me”, a film about five interwoven stories that focus on mental illness and its impact on those it affects, their friends and families. After the movie there will be panelists to discuss issues surrounding depression, bipolar, and PTSD.

Movie: “Girls Rising” (http://www.girlrising.com/) offered by Women’s Studies, Psychology, and cosponsored by AAUW. The film tells about nine girls from around the world and the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to positively transform the world.

Join Congressman Moran and keynote speaker Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro for the 2013 Annual Women’s Issues Conference at George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mt Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301 on October 26, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Rosa DeLauro is a leader in Congress on issues affecting women, families and children, serving as the top Democrat on the influential Labor, Health, Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee.

The conference will include health screenings, information booths on a range of relevant issues, and a series of seminars on topics including women in the developing world, finance, professional and community leadership, and auto care.

Making “Cents” of it All: Wealth Building for the 21st Century Woman
Learn the basics of wealth building, including budgeting, investing, and retirement planning.

Women in the Military: Challenges Facing our Female Soldiers
Learn more about the experiences of women serving in the military including the increase in the reported number of sexual assaults, the debate over women serving in combat, and regulations on reproductive health care for women in the military.

Women in the Developing World
This session will review the challenges of women in developing countries and how we can support efforts for women’s equality around the world.

Navigating the Affordable Care Act
Learn more about the Affordable Care Act, what it means for you and your family, and how to successfully navigate this new health care law.

Car Care 101
This hands-on session will teach you the basics of auto care, and what to do when the unexpected happens.
