FALL 2024 EVENTS

Whether you are a new student or a returning student it’s always great to be at NOVA  and below are all our events listed for the fall. If you want to make a club to find like minded individuals or join a club where you are interested in what they’re about.  Ready to join trivia where this year we will be shaking things up. All is below and be sure to check us out during the semester for different events.


The holiday season is here and so are the finals!

Final season at NOVA is a stressful time, so this semester we hosted a Finals Stress-Relief event where students could grab snacks between exams, as well as make friendship bracelets (+ creatures) and create holiday cards for this winter’s festivities! ❄

Quilts of Valor on Friday, December 6th, from 11am to 1pm at the CE Forum.

The Annandale Offices of Provost and Student Life invite you to attend to a special ceremony presentation of Quilts of Valor, honoring member of the NOVA community who have served.

RSPV to ANProvost@nvcc.edu by Friday, November 22.

A Quilt of Valor (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. The quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”

Dr. Kress Visited Student Life Annandale!

It was a pleasure meeting Dr. Kress on 5th Of December at Annandale Student Life Office, where we had meaningful conversations about student life and SGA activities. Our student ambassadors, coordinators, and SGA members did a fantastic job sharing their experiences and insights about our vibrant community. Grateful for this opportunity to connect and collaborate!


Trivia Thursday Championship!

On Thursday, December 5th we held our final Trivia Thursday showdown! Participants were exclusively picked from past Trivia Thursday winners, meaning this event was invite only! Congratulations to this semester’s winners, we hope to see you all next semester for the next games!

Cultural Festival: 

The cultural festival was an absolute blast, full of energy, excitement, and vibrant displays from around the world!
Each country showcased its unique traditions through delicious food samples that delighted the senses. The music added to the festive atmosphere, with rhythms from different cultures filling the air, from Latin beats to African drumming and lively European folk tunes, also, the attendees had the chance to win a prize!
It was a fantastic celebration of diversity, bringing together the best of global cultures in one unforgettable day!

 

VOICES OF THE LAND: A CELEBRATION OF NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

Make a poster of any Native American Tribe and bring it to CF lounge on Nov 18th 11am-2pm

 Rules:

  • Describe one remarkable fact about the tribe
  • Poster cannot be printed in its entirety.
  • You can print some sections and glue them to the poster.

Mental Health Day

Thursday, November 13rd (11AM–2PM) CF Student Lounge

Participate in a day of healthy and fun activities on campus to support your physical and mental health. Everybody is welcome!

Enjoy a chair massage, a tea room, therapy dogs and art breaks!

Vote on the Presidential Elections

Tuesday, November 5th (11am-3pm), CFH, room 224.

Make your voice heard by voting on Tuesday, November 5th.

If you have any questions before the voting date stop by the Student Life Office on Monday November 4th 11am-3pm, at the Annandale Campus, building CFH, room 224.

Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Thursday, October 31st (2PM–4PM) CF Student Lounge

Come and help us decorate a remembrance community altar to honor and share memories about our loved ones. Decorate sugar skulls, create paper flowers, and papel picado banners. The altar will stay in place until the next day, November 1st. Snacks and fun will be provided!

Welcome Week

8/26 – 8/30

Annandale Students had a blast during welcome week! The Student Life team helped students to find their destinations and provided general campus information. All our visitors received cool merchandizing and gifts. Many NOVA offices tabled with us on Tuesday such as the office of mental health and wellness, tutoring, college steps, NOVA choir, financial stability and advocacy, Career Connection, Student Success Department, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Financial Aid,   thank you so much for sponsoring Welcome Week! On Wednesday and Thursday, we all enjoyed ice cream treats and made colorful tie-dye T-shirts despite the heat and humidity! We enjoyed seeing new and familiar faces. Thank so much for stopping by! To all our Annandale students, welcome to NOVA and we wish you a successful and fun semester!

We kept the secret until everybody was on the bus! Our final destination?… Molly’s Horror Room, The Joker’s Trap , The Frightful Feast  and Fighting for the Future at the Escape Room in Fairfax!


Spring Fling

April 16th

Amazing  Spring celebration with outdoor fun,  food, carnival games, and karaoke! Students and staff enjoyed Balloon Artist, Photo Booth, Carnival Games and Prizes, Give Aways, Disc Jockey, Sand Art Station, Funnel Cake Fries, Pretzel Food Station, Nacho Food Station, and an Ice Cream Truck!

Eyes were to the sky for the event of the year, the solar eclipse! While we did not experience complete totality, it’s safe to say everyone was still just as impressed!

Mental Health Week

March 25 – 28

This was a week full of healthy and fun activities on campus to
support physical and mental health.

MONDAY, MARCH 25 WELLNESS RESOURCES AND THERAPY DOGS.

The first day of our mental health week is packed with resources and tips to help you increase your wellness, and of course this could not be accomplished without the help of amazing pooches from Manassas Therapy Dogs!

 

TUESDAY, MARCH 26. ORIGAMI, MASSAGES, TEA, AND CHAT

Origami: We engaged in creating beautiful designs  such as cranes, flowers, crowns, and more.

Chair Massage: Everybody enjoyed a message with a therapist who used a variety of techniques to help  reduce stress, improve circulation, and relieve pain

Tea and chat: We also enjoyed a cup of jasmine, chamomile, and  green tea along with delicious pastries and sandwiches.

Celebrating Black History

On Wednesday February 21th 2024, we celebrated Black History Month with our students on campus. Participants received a lunch box while enjoying some music and fun!   

Valentine’s Day

On Wednesday February 14th 2024, we celebrated love and friendship with our students on campus. Participants received carnations, chocolates and stuffed animals while enjoying some music and fun!   

Beerless Pong

Last Monday, February 12th  we enjoyed the first Beerless Pong Match in the CF building where we learned about drinking facts, prevention and reduction of alcohol consumption while enjoying fun games and winning prizes.
