The Annex

The ASC Annex is located in the Bisdorf Building on the Alexandria Campus, in room AA-234. The Annex is designed to facilitate collaborative learning and creativity, and is open to the NOVA community for that purpose. The space includes:

  • Room for 35 people, participants and facilitators
  • Flexible furniture configurations with dry-erase surface tables that can double as presentation boards
  • Multiple white boards
  • A multi-media setup with speakers, a large-screen television in the front of the room, and a smaller screen in the back, which can mirror the large display or have a different display
  • A computer connected to the multi-media system with wireless keyboard and mouse

Reservations are required to use the space. Requests are prioritized in the following way:

  1. Learning-focused workshops
  2. Supplemental instruction
  3. Student projects and study groups
  4. Faculty/staff training
  5. Faculty/staff meetings

Operating hours of The Annex are Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are closed on the weekends and on days when campus offices are closed.

To request a reservation, first check the calendar to select an available time. Our online system is currently under construction; please contact Gwen McCrea at gmccrea@nvcc.edu or 703-575-4708 to request a reservation.

On the day and time of your reservation, please come to the Academic Success Center in AA-229 so that our staff can open the room for you.


The ASC Annex Policies and Procedures

Reservations

  • Reservations must be made at least one day in advance.
  • Maximum reservation length is three hours.
  • Maximum capacity is 35 people.
  • If the room is not already reserved, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Overlapping requests will be prioritized in the following way:
    1. Learning-focused workshops
    2. Supplemental instruction
    3. Student projects and study groups
    4. Faculty/staff training
    5. Faculty/staff meetings

To reserve The ASC Annex:

  1. Check The ASC Annex calendar at https://blogs.nvcc.edu/asc/theannex/the-annex-calendar/
  2. Remember that our normal operating hours are Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  3. We are closed on the weekends, when campus offices are closed, and during intersession between semesters
  4. If the day and time that you want to reserve is available, complete the Reservation Request Form at https://tinyurl.com/ascannex
  5. Please include enough time for set-up and clean-up in your request
  6. You will immediately receive an email with the details of your request
  7. An ASC staff member will contact you to confirm your reservation or ask for more information

Cancellations

  • To cancel a reservation, complete the Cancellation Form at https://tinyurl.com/asccancel.
  • Please cancel reservations in a timely manner—at minimum, 24 hours’ notice, but earlier is better!
  • Please be considerate if you need to cancel your event, so that others may use the space. A pattern of last-minute cancellations or failure to utilize existing reservations may result in the suspension of usage privileges.

Usage

  • To access The ASC Annex for your event, come to the Academic Success Center in AA-229. The front desk staff will ask you to sign in, and then they will unlock the room for you.
  • If you have any issues with the media system, ASC staff in AA-229 may be able to help you. If not, call the AL Campus IT Services at (703) 845-6226 or AL-ITG@nvcc.edu.
  • You are welcome to arrange the furniture to best suit the needs of your event.
  • Please use only dry-erase markers on the whiteboards and the tables.
  • Food and drink are allowed in The Annex, but please take measures to prevent spills and to clean up after yourself and your event attendees. Ants, mice, and cockroaches are not welcome, so don’t invite them!
  • At the end of your event, please tidy up after yourself, return the furniture to its standard arrangement, and lock the door.
