This course is the second semester of a two-semester sequence (BIO 141-142 HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I-II – 4 credits each). BIO 141-142 is an introductory college transfer level offering designed to meet the anatomy and physiology needs of the student pursuing programs in a medical or paramedical career, or a degree in physical education and health technology fields. The course consists of formal lectures, demonstrations and laboratory activities which examine the microscope and gross anatomy of the systems of the human body and their physiology.

The basic objective of this course is to provide the student with the background knowledge needed to perform adequately in a health technology field. Individual should acquire a sound understanding of the structure and function of the normal human body organ systems and the roles of these organs to maintain the homeostasis.

Major topics to be discussed during the current semester include: Chemical and physical aspects of life, Structure and function of cells and tissues, Cellular energetics, Basic anatomical terminology, Mitosis versus Meiosis, Anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, Anatomy and physiology of the Nervous system and special senses.
