BHCC CCI end of year ceremony

Exchange Participants at Bunker Hill Community College Celebrate Personal Achievements and Contributions to Host Community

On Friday, May 12, 2017, twelve CCI students from eight countries celebrated the culmination of a year of hard work engaging in internships, volunteer work, and college coursework at Bunker Hill Community College. They came to Boston from countries such as Colombia, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, South Africa and Ghana and studied in CCI academic fields including early childhood education, business management and administration, information technology, public safety, and tourism and hospitality management. Attending their end-of-year ceremony were the college’s Vice President, Dr. Canniff; Associate Provost, Clea Andreadis; Dean of Behavioral Studies and Mathematics, Maria Puente; and a representative of the host families, Jonathan Moseley.

This year’s students contributed more than 2,000 hours to their host community, which the Independent Sector estimates as valuing over $61,000*. “One of the gems that we have in this college is the amount of service that our CCI students give to the community,” said Dean Puente. “I hope that value for serving the community remains with each of you as you make your way back home.” Additionally, CCI students at BHCC also contributed 720 hours of internship and professional development work with local businesses and organizations.

As CCI participants make their way back to their home countries after studying in the U.S. for 10 months, we celebrate their success and achievements during their exchange year.
