Like many Community College Initiative (CCI) Program alumni, Erniatun Hartini did not want her learning to stop after she left the United States. Since returning to Indonesia in 2017, Erni has enrolled in several online courses. Her favorites, she said, were the ones she took through the American Management Association. NOVA’s partnership with AMA enables CCI alumni to take courses and earn certificates in 10 areas of business and leadership.
Erni, who studied media at College of DuPage during the CCI Program, is one of several hundred alumni from various fields who have taken advantage of this professional development opportunity. The most popular certificate tracks so far include Management (Levels 1 & 2) and Business Writing. Erni has earned all three of those certificates, as well as two others. Asked about what she learned from the courses in these tracks, Erni shared the following:
“One of the most beneficial courses for me was the Business Writing course that highly related with my recent job as a Communication and Promotion Officer for one of the leading nonprofit organizations in Indonesia. The course enriched me with beneficial knowledge in how to write effective reports, business proposals and press releases – the things that I am exactly doing in my work routine. The professional writing techniques I obtained from the course have improved my skill in providing concise, relevant, and understandable information about the organization to public, stakeholders, and potential donors.”
CCI alumna Jessica Espina Molina also praised the Business Writing courses she took through AMA. Jessica studied business administration at Northcentral Technical College during the 2010-11 and now works in customer service for a furniture export company in her home country of Guatemala. Discussing the AMA courses, she said:
“I really love (the AMA courses) because they added something to my knowledge and life. I had the opportunity to hear from the voice of (experts from) the business world with high standards, looking to the future and improvement with a very open mind. Also, it helped me a lot by writing – especially at work – with confidence and consideration. There were many things I did not know about grammar and thanks to the courses of AMA I understood.”
Collectively, CCI alumni earned more than 375 AMA certificates within the first nine months of the CCI Alumni Certificate Programs. For more information on this and other alumni opportunities, visit http://www.nvcc.edu/ccip/opportunities.html
