New Associate Vice-President for Retention and Engagement
I am pleased to announce Dr. Rhonda Myers as the new Associate Vice-President for Retention and Engagement. Dr. Myers will oversee and work collaboratively to provide college-wide support to student success programs to include NOVA’s First Year Experience (FYE), student advising, career services, student intercollegiate athletics and intramural sports, student leadership, and other student support services.
Since 2010, Rhonda Myers has served Northern Virginia Community College in a number of roles supporting student success, most recently overseeing high school outreach (recruitment), student orientation programs and first year advising as the Coordinator of Student Success –AL Campus. Additionally, she has contributed to the strategic direction of the college in her work on the Policy Change Implementation Steering Committee; Great Expectations Advisory Board; VIP PASS Student Services/Advising and Training Team; Multiple Measures Committee; Strategic Planning Steering Committee on Advising, Student Services, and Learning Technology and Resources, and the SACS Reaffirmation Steering Committee. As well, she represented NOVA on the VCCS Administrative and Professional Faculty Evaluation Task Force.
Dr. Myers began her career in higher education as an AmeriCorps member at the University of the District of Columbia coordinating academic programs, and has worked in a diverse array of postsecondary institutions over her 20-year career, including public and private, 2- and 4-year, HBCUs, HSIs and PWIs. Her service in higher education has allowed her to fulfill her personal mission, which is to support young people in the achievement of their educational goals through academic, leadership, personal and professional development. Dr. Myers holds a doctorate of philosophy in public administration from Old Dominion University, master’s of business administration from Kent State University, and bachelor’s degrees in communication and criminology from The Ohio State University.
