Senator Tim Kaine Hosts Roundtable on Higher Education Act – Alexandria Campus

March 6, 2020 / General NOVA News

If you weren’t able to attend Monday’s event with Senator Tim Kaine at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus, please find links to the press release, photos and short video.  The roundtable discussion focused on prioritizing the Higher Education Act.  As Congress works on the legislation, Kaine’s top priority alongside is including his bipartisan Jumpstart Our Businesses By Supporting Students (JOBS) Act, legislation to help students access training for the 7.3 million vacant jobs that are unfilled in part due to a shortage of qualified workers.

Chancellor Glenn Dubois then unveiled a report highlighting the need for Kaine’s JOBS Act to be enacted so students in short-term job training programs will be eligible for Pell Grants. Kaine will also talked about legislation he introduced last month to launch a community college and career training grant program to address the evolving demands of the labor market.  NOVA’s President Anne Kress offered her expertise alongside students on what they have seen for education policies to work for students.
