Change to 15-Week Semester Effective Fall 2020
Did you know the College is changing to a 15-week semester?
The 15-week semester will take effect in fall 2020. This allows for additional time before and/or after fall and spring semester for 9-month teaching faculty to prepare for classes, be available for students, and be available to attend convocation, professional development sessions, and campus, Pathway, or other meetings.
How does the change impact the scheduling of classes?
New standard class times include: 6:30am, 8:00am, 9:35am, 11:10am, 12:45pm, 2:20pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:30pm, 7:00pm, and 8:00pm.
Sessions available include: 15W, 13W, 12W, 8W1, 8W2, 5W1 (MTT), 5W2 (MTT), 5W3 (MTT), DYN (NOVA Online or with Discipline Dean and Provost permission).
Note that the two 8W sessions fit because the semester is 15 weeks of class plus one week for exams.
How does this impact the final exam schedule?
Final exams will still be 100 minutes, and the Schedulers of Classes work group (SOC) will continue to create a final exam schedule every semester.
Note: second 8-week session will continue to use the entire final exam week for instruction and exams.
Do students know about the change?
Students were notified of the 15-week session change in the spring and summer 2020 Schedule of Classes.
