WUSA9 Story on NOVA’s Donation of PPE
Faculty and staff from NOVA’s Alexandria Campus recently made lemonade out of lemons. Because there are no classes meeting on campus this spring, they had a surplus of PPE (personal protective equipment) that could be put to good use. Instead of having these supplies just sit and wait to be used, it was decided they would be donated to the Alexandria Health District to meet a critical need. Items donated included: 200 N95 masks, 3,000 pairs of gloves, 45 splash-proof goggles, 40 face masks, ethanol pads and concentrated Lysol.
As a scientist, Maggie Emblom-Callahan, associate dean of science, said she is a natural problem-solver. If there is a need, she has to find a way to fix it. And Laura Garcia, of NOVA’s Auto Tech Program is the daughter of a nurse. She says helping out the community during this time is especially important.
