In This COVID-19 Era, We Are Closer Than You Think
In this era of social distancing, we are closer than you think. A project that I was working on lead me to contact the 24/7 Support Center for information. Mr. Leroy Allen responded to the inquiry with an invitation to call. When we connected over the phone, the conversation went back in forth:
What part of Maryland do you live in?
You live in this city? I live in this city.
You live off this highway? I live off this highway.
I live on this street! No way! Me too!
Long story short, as it turned out, we are neighbors! He knows my husband, children and even the dog! Leroy called me the mystery woman, because we never met as neighbors.
The funny thing is, a couple of years ago, I was introduced to Leroy Allen by a colleague, Tykesha Myrick, during a college-wide professional development event, but I could not figure out why he looked so familiar.
You know the phrase “It’s a Small World,” well it certainly applies here. We knew some of the same people, we worked at the same place, yet during the COVID-19 pandemic, in an unexpected place we discovered we were closer than we thought.
