Manassas Comm Studies Professor, Libby Vick to Retire from NOVA
Professor Elizabeth (Libby) Vick taught her first class at NOVA as an adjunct in 1987. She was hired full-time at the Alexandria Campus in 1990 and later went on to serve as the Communication Studies and Theater (CST) Assistant Dean from 1996-2006. She will retire from NOVA after 32 years of dedicated service.
During her tenure at NOVA, Libby has served as the CST Cluster Chair twice and was involved in successfully producing the first CST Program Evaluation Report in the 1990’s. In the early 2000’s she was one of the first instructors to receive training on developing hybrid classes, and she continues to serve as a hybrid instructor at the Manassas Campus.
Libby was a strong advocate for the development of intercultural curriculum and played an instrumental role in ensuring CST 229 (Intercultural Communication) became a permanent course that was included in NOVA’s curriculum requirements. In addition to her work with CST 229, Libby also taught the ever-popular CST 227 (Business Communication) course, which served as the hybrid course template across the VCCS.
In addition to her service as a communication professor, Libby has also served in a variety of campus and college roles, including: Discipline Steering Committee representative (Manassas), faculty advisor for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Muslim Student Association, member of the Manassas Campus Council and member of the Personnel Services Committee.
During her retirement, Libby will continue to teach part-time for NOVA, while spending more time at her historic farmhouse in Rappahannock County, Virginia.
Libby’s dedication to her students, the communication discipline and to the college continues to inspire and motivate her peers. We wish Libby the very best during her retirement years and we are grateful to have had the honor of serving as her colleague.
