Employee Guidance for Returning to Work Onsite

August 6, 2020 / HR News/Training

As NOVA transitions some employees back to work on-site to attend to the business needs of the College, the Guide for Returning to the Workplace provides the most up-to-date information on how the College is managing during this pandemic. A link to the Guide is also available on the Stay Safe with Ace website.

During these unprecedented and uncertain times, we understand that many employees are concerned about NOVA’s plans to return to work and how the safety and well-being of employees are being prioritized. The health, safety and mental well-being of our employees and students remain a top priority and significant efforts have been made to keep our workplace environment healthy. Employees returning to campus will notice our new practices and protocols. All of this and more is outlined in the Guide for Returning to the Workplace.

Please take time to read through the information that outlines workplace expectations and guidelines. NOVA will continue to operate from an abundance of caution as we follow the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). In addition, we will follow all mandates issued by the federal government, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System. This is a fluid process, and guidance may change with short notice. We will pass that guidance along to you as it becomes available.

Supervisors should give sufficient notification (i.e., two weeks) to employees who are expected to return to work on-site. Supervisors should use the electronic Supervisor Notification to Employee to Return to Work On-site Form (Form 105-212). The form can be found online in the Forms Library. The form will include information and reminders about the resources, training and safety protocols put in place for a return to work on-site.

Employees returning to work on-site should review the following:

All employees are expected to complete the required safety and anti-stigma training in Canvas prior to returning to campus or a NOVA leased facility. The training (NOVA COVID-19 Training) is located under Courses on the Canvas dashboard. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that employees have completed the required training.

In addition, employees have access to the GoCanvas app, a self-assessment health screening app customized for NOVA. GoCanvas is designed to reduce the spread of COVID-19 within the NOVA community by allowing faculty, staff and students to evaluate any symptoms they have before they come on campus or to a NOVA leased facility. Please know that personal identifiable information and health information are not collected, stored in the app or shared by the College.

And as always, thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the complexities of this “new normal.”
