NOVA Libraries Fall 2020: Service Updates

August 20, 2020 / General NOVA News

Things look a little different at NOVA Libraries, but our commitment to NOVA students, faculty and staff is unchanged.

What to expect:

Please be aware that library services are temporarily available only to NOVA faculty and staff, and to students who are currently registered for classes at NOVA.

What’s available:

Hours of operation:

  • On-Campus services: All campus library spaces are open for book pickup and use of computer/wifi/study space Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Check with campus libraries for additional hours.
  • Virtual services: NOVA librarians are available online to assist with research help Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.;  Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Borrowing and returning library materials: Request books and DVDs online for low-contact pickup at the libraries. Return library items in designated indoor and outdoor book drops. Books will be quarantined for at least 72 hours upon return. Please be patient as they will remain on your account for several days upon return.
  • Computers: A limited number of computers are available.
  • Online research help: Chat online anytime (24/7), make a virtual appointment or email a librarian.
  • Online collections: Access eBooks, streaming video, article databases and more on the library website.
  • Online library instruction sessions: Please contact the library for synchronous and asynchronous options.
  • Individual study: Study tables and seating have been reconfigured to allow for distancing.

Please note these services are temporarily unavailable due to frequency of use:

  • Course reserves, including textbooks and models, are not being offered through the libraries at this time. Please reach out to the library to discuss textbook affordability, OER and strategies to provide access to course materials in Canvas, in consideration of copyright/fair use.
  • Group/quiet study rooms and library classrooms are closed.
  • Library instruction is available remotely.
  • Book stacks are accessible only to library employees. Please ask a staff member to retrieve your materials.

To protect the health and safety of library staff and patrons:

  • Face masks are required. If you don’t have a face mask, you may get one from Parking/NOVACard Offices.
  • Social distancing: Furniture has been moved to help everyone stay six feet apart.
  • Cleaning/disinfection: Hygiene Stations containing disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer are available.
  • High-touch/high-trafficked areas will have increased cleaning and disinfection.
  • Library items will be quarantined upon return for 72 hours.
