Better Safe than Sorry–Don’t Wait, Make Your Plan Today

“Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail.”

Life is full of surprises. Hardly any of us end up where we thought we would in life. Though there are many ups and downs, the majority of a typical life is fairly uneventful. But, things happen. Life happens. Will you be ready when it does?

It’s a Tuesday evening, like any other, you’re home unwinding after a long day. Dinner is cooking in the oven, and you’re enjoying being with your loved ones. You smell something smoky and, after a few moments, you decide to investigate to ensure it’s not your dinner burning. There’s smoke billowing out of the oven and you open the door to try to save your dinner, but it’s too late.

The gust of air ignites the hot smoke, and now you’re staring at fire coming out of your oven. You frantically attempt to put the fire out but it spreads too quickly. The flames spread, and you flee from the house. You hope that your family members got out too but you can’t find them. Where would they have run to?

As reality starts to settle in, one question continues to race through your mind–What are we going to do?

Disasters do happen.

Make a plan today. Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to know which types of disasters could affect your area. Know how you’ll contact one another and reconnect if separated. Establish a family meeting place that’s familiar and easy to find. Visit ready.gov for more information and assistance to make your plan.

It’s better to be safe than sorry.
