2020 ADVANCE Faculty Summit

October 21, 2020 / General NOVA News

On October 13, more than 160 faculty and staff members from NOVA and George Mason University met for the Fourth Annual ADVANCE Faculty Summit. The event featured welcome remarks from President Anne Kress and Dr. Sheri Robertson from NOVA, as well as Provost Mark Ginsberg and Dr. Janette Muir from Mason. Also included was a review of ADVANCE program outcomes such as retention and student satisfaction, a faculty collaboration panel featuring several NOVA faculty members (Rudy Napisa, representing Engineering; Dean Shelly Powers, representing Health Sciences and Ashley Wilkins, representing Teacher Education), and breakout sessions for 18 different disciplinary areas to discuss the ADVANCE pathways and other opportunities for NOVA-Mason collaboration. A recording of the opening session of the Faculty Summit can be accessed Here. (Passcode: ^KfHP575)

Several groups of faculty were not able to attend the summit and are meeting with their counterparts separately. If any faculty need assistance with these individual meetings, please let us know. Staff are working to apply the suggested changes discussed at the Faculty Summit to the draft ADVANCE pathways for 2021-2022, and the draft pathways will be shared with the NOVA Pathway Councils in mid-November for final review and approval. If faculty or staff have questions or suggestions for the pathways, contact  academics@nvcc.edu.
