Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Makes Enormous Donation to WO Food Pantry
More than 2,000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) gathered on Sunday, January 7, at Maryland’s Gaylord National Resort, where the group held its Founders’ Day “Fill the Pantry” service project to combat food insecurity among college students. Members contributed thousands of pounds of non-perishable food and personal care products to the NOVA Woodbridge Campus and Coppin State University food pantries.
Woodbridge Campus Provost Dr. Richmond Hill, accompanied by students Jamar Pride, Umar Kahn and Musawer Noori, took the NOVA van to National Harbor to accept the donation and bring it back to campus. Little did Dr. Hill know the donation was so large that he’d have to turn around and make a second trip!
“I am proud of our members’ efforts to make a positive difference in the spirit of our Founders who started Alpha Kappa Alpha on a path of lifelong service in 1908,” said North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq. “Food insecurity is a real challenge for many students. We can and we will help.”
Provost Hill and the entire Woodbridge Campus are extremely grateful for AKA’s generosity.
