Monday Campaign: Making It Happen: Additional Tips and Strategies
It’s Monday, our day to refresh! What’s today’s plan for increasing your likelihood of success?
NOVA’s Office of Employee Wellness and Wellbeing (OEWW) invites you to take steps to improve, maintain or alter your chosen wellness habits.
Let’s continue to break down Step 3: Make it happen.
You’ve taken steps to:
- Set/reset your intention.
- Pick an action.
- Make it happen. (activating the plan with “habit stacking”)
Let’s dive deeper into how to make it happen. What are some other tips and strategies?
Additional Tips and Strategies to Move from Planning to Action
- Start on Monday.
- Research shows it’s easier to stay motivated and inspired when you start the week with your chosen wellness habit. So schedule it in; commit to getting moving every Monday.
- Use reminders (ink it in).
- Set reminders on your phone, create calendar events or use sticky notes to prompt you to engage in a new habit until it becomes automatic.
- Track your progress.
- Keep a habit tracker or journal to monitor your progress. Tracking helps you stay accountable and provides you with a visual representation of your efforts.
- Take small steps.
- If you feel like you have a million things to do every day, tiny tweaks might be your answer. For example, try scheduling in short bursts of physical activity throughout your day. Little steps can add up to a big difference in reaching your fitness goals. And if you haven’t yet, try habit stacking, an evidence-based approach to making big changes one tiny tweak at a time.
- Reward yourself.
- Reinforce a healthy habit by rewarding yourself. Celebrate small victories to create positive associations with the behavior.
- Join forces.
- Share your goals with a friend or family member. Having an accountability partner can provide support and encouragement.
Change is within your reach. If you slip up during the week, accept it as part of the process of change; simply reset and get back on track! And remember, use the Monday Check-In to help bolster your wellness efforts. Each week, take what you need and leave what you don’t!
