NOVA’s 2023 IPEDS Benchmark Report Now Available: Read It Here!

March 20, 2024 / General NOVA News

Each year, NOVA’s Office of Strategic Insights (OSI) submits official college data to the U.S. Department of Education to meet reporting requirements. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Benchmark Report: 2023 presents data on selected indicators related to student access and success including enrollment, retention and graduation rates.

Data for NOVA are compared with those of a group of peer institutions. The characteristics used to select comparison institutions include public, two-year, degree-granting institutions with similar enrollment. A complete listing of the comparison institutions is included in the report. IPEDS publishes this benchmark report annually so that institutions can identify and review institutional trends and determine how their indicators compare to those of other institutions with similar characteristics. The data in this report were provided by institutions to IPEDS.

Some interesting comparisons are as follows:

  • Of the students enrolled at NOVA in Fall 2022, 17% identified as Asian compared to the median (5%) at comparable institutions.
  • Of the students enrolled at NOVA in Fall 2022, 52% were women compared to the median (58%) at comparable institutions.
  • Of the students enrolled at NOVA in Fall 2022, 27% were exclusively in distance education compared to the median (35%) at comparable institutions.
  • For the Fall 2021 cohort, the retention rates to Fall 2022 of full-time, first-time degree-/certificate-seeking students was 71% at NOVA compared to the median (61%) at comparable institutions. For part-time students, the retention rate to the next fall at NOVA was 53% compared to the median (46%) at comparable institutions.
  • Graduation rates of full-time, first-time degree-/certificate-seeking students within 150% of normal time to completion, or three years, for the 2019 cohort was 35% at NOVA compared to the median (21%) at comparable institutions.
