Spotlight on Financial Fitness:
Workout on a Budget. Committing to an active lifestyle can be hard enough without the pressure to invest in new equipment that seems to come out every day. As CNET says, “Here’s the truth: You don’t need to break the bank to cultivate your wellness. You can exercise without spending any money at all. How much money you have in your bank account doesn’t have to stop you from meeting your fitness goals.” Consider these three budget-friendly fitness ideas:

  1. Walking/running can be great for your overall health. You may want to invest in a good pair of shoes, but they should last at least a few hundred miles. You can do it just about anywhere—no treadmill required; in fact, go outside for added mental health benefits!
  2. Push-ups, planks, and squats, oh my!Body weight exercises are convenient and free. They are exercises that you can use to increase your heart rate and help maintain your health. They can activate stabilizing muscles that help you reduce the risk of injury too!
  3. Exercise videos are available on any style of exercise from strength workouts to yoga and everything in between. They mostly are free too. You could even go old school and borrow one from a local library.

See the attachment from Aetna for more info on the importance of having an exercise routine and shaking it up from time to time.

  • This Wednesday, August 14th is National Financial Awareness Day! Celebrate the day by spending a few minutes gaining control, clarity and confidence over your finances click here for financial wellness resources curated by NOVA’s Office of Employee Wellness and Wellbeing.
