Chief “Jake” Jacoby to Retire from NOVA Police

September 10, 2024 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Please join the NOVA Police Department in celebrating Chief William “Jake” Jacoby’s retirement as NOVA’s Chief of Police. Chief Jacoby has dedicated over a decade of service to the NOVA Police Department, beginning his tenure on December 11, 2013, as Deputy Chief of Police. He held this role for more than nine years before being promoted to Chief in January 2022.

Before joining NOVA, Chief Jacoby had a distinguished 26-year career with the Fairfax County Police Department, where he retired with the rank of Lieutenant, having held a variety of senior leadership positions.

During his time at NOVA, Chief Jacoby significantly advanced the department’s culture of policing. He placed a strong emphasis on professionalism, career development for officers, approachability and community outreach. His efforts were instrumental in enhancing departmental transparency and fostering empowerment within the NOVA community.

Chief Jacoby’s final day of service will be September 30. As the department embarks on a thorough selection process to fill this important role, Lieutenant Tony Ong has been appointed as interim chief of police, effective September 9. If you have questions, you may reach Lt. Ong at tong2@nvcc.edu.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chief Jacoby for his years of dedicated service to NOVA and wish him all the best in his retirement.
