Walker Wisdom Day 2: Time It Up

September 17, 2024 / Get Well

The CDC recommends adults get 150 minutes of moderately intense physical activity a week. That averages to 30 minutes of activity 5 days a week. It is a misconception that it has to be completed all at once. If 30 minutes of consecutive activity is not feasible, break it into increments of 10 or 15 minutes.

The benefits of getting active include better sleep, lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes. Here are three quick tips to get started:

  • Set aside time dedicated to your health. Creating a routine is a great way to improve your physical abilities.
  • Set a goal and put it on the calendar. This will help hold you accountable.
  • Start slow and work your way up to more time spent in physical activity.

Check out the CDC guide for those who may just be starting out with physical activity. The guide also has useful ways to overcome obstacles that may be preventing you from taking the first steps.
