SDV Policy & New Canvas Training

Reminder for all students of some enrollment policies in effect for the Fall 2024 semester.

SDV Policy

VCCS policy requires that SDV 100 or 101 be taken within the first 15 credits of enrollment. Enforcement of this policy at NOVA requires students to enroll in SDV within their first semester of attendance if they are enrolled in a degree or certificate program, unless they meet one of the exemptions. Refer to the SDV Policy website for more information.

New Student Mandatory Training

To meet new Virginia legislation, NOVA has launched student training courses in Canvas called Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Training and Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness Training. If you have recently completed the application to the college, you may be required to complete this training before seeing any courses on Canvas. If you are enrolled on the student information system, but your instructor reports that you are listed as “inactive” in Canvas, then you must complete this training.

To log into the training:

  1. Click on the myNOVA tab on the top left of the screen.
  2. Enter your Username and Password.
  3. Click GO.
  4. Select Canvas.
  5. Select the tile New Student Mandatory Training

After you complete both mandatory trainings, your courses will appear on your Canvas Dashboard. Please note that it may take up to 4 hours after completing the training for your Canvas to unlock.
