The Radiography program has a separate application process after applying to the college and admits a limited number of students once per year. Students are eligible to apply during the open application period after meeting all requirements. Application requirements are updated each year after the current application cycle has ended.

What Students Need to Apply for 2025

  • Watch Radiography Information Session
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA from last school attended
  • SDV 101 Orientation to Healthcare with B or better grade
  • ENG 111 College Composition I with B or better grade
  • BIO 141 Human Anatomy & Physiology I with B or better grade completed within past 10 years
  • BIO 142 Human Anatomy & Physiology II with B or better grade completed within past 10 years
  • RAD 105 Intro to Radiology with B or better grade
    Offered in the Fall & Spring semesters at MEC
  • Qualify to enroll in MTH 161 Precalculus I
    Qualify by completing a Math Survey
  • TEAS Test – minimum score of 50 in English, Reading, and Math

Other Accepted Options

Although not listed in the College Catalog, the program also accepts the following substitutions for application:

  • SDV 100 College Success Skills with B or better grade
  • SDV ABLE exam with score of 38 or higher
  • SDV waiver: previous associate, baccalaureate, or higher degree from an accredited United States institution of higher education
  • ENG 112 College Composition II with B or better grade
  • ENG 200-level literature course with B or better grade
  • College Composition CLEP Exam; score of 59 for B grade
  • English Literature CLEP Exam; score of 63 for B grade
  • Language International Baccalaureate (IB) Exam
    score of 5 for B grade; score of 6/7 for A grade
  • English Advanced Placement (AP) Exam
    score of 4 for B grade; score of 5 for A grade

Refer to the Health Sciences Transcript Evaluation Process to transfer outside classes, degrees, or exam credit to NOVA. Refer to the current Credit for Prior Learning Manual for how NOVA awards CLEP, IB, and AP exam credit. Any needed course substitutions will be submitted by faculty advisors after official acceptance to the program. Applicants should make sure any transferred classes or exam credits being used for application meet the B or better grade requirement.

How Eligible Applications Will Be Ranked

  • Final grades in BIO 141, BIO 142, and RAD 105
  • TEAS scores in English, Reading, and Math
  • Completion of HLT 141 Medical Terminology, a social science, and a humanities/fine arts elective at time of application
  • Number of attempts to achieve A grades in BIO 141 & 142
  • Higher grades and higher TEAS scores equals more points in the ranking process

Important Application Information

  • B minus, C, and P+ grades are not accepted
  • Pending grades and pending transfer credits are not accepted
  • Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance
  • RAD typically receives 75-100 applications
  • Accepts 45 students

How to Apply

  • Make sure you have successfully completed all requirements
  • Make sure the application window is open
  • Have the Information Session Code
  • Submit an online Health Sciences & Nursing Application
  • Attach your TEAS scores to the online form
  • Frequently check your VCCS email in case you are contacted for additional or missing information
  • Allow up to 8 weeks after the deadline to receive final notification from the program
  • All accepted students must attend a mandatory program orientation held in July
