This week at ELI!

FALL Tuition Payment: If you registered for fall 2017 courses and haven’t submitted your tuition payment or have financial aid in place, you must do so  by Monday, July 24 at 5 p.m. to avoid being dropped from your courses! Check out NOVA’s website for more for more details about tuition payment methods and deadlines.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time to register for fall if you haven’t done so already! ELI’s first fall session begins Monday, August 21. ELI has additional fall start dates later in the semester. Check the full list of fall 2017 courses.

NOVA offers a payment plan for students enrolled in courses. Please note the last day to sign up for the payment plan is August 24.

Just remember, if you register for fall courses on or after Monday, July 24, your payment is due by 5 p.m. the next business day.

Proctored Exams: All ELI courses require proctored exams! Plan ahead so you are prepared as your exams quickly approach. Review the testing information website to make arrangements. This previous blog post will also help as you prepare whether you are taking exams at NOVA, through ProctorU, or with a testing location in your area. Questions? Drawings will be done weekly and monthly through the fall semester. Join now!

Check out our community volunteer booklet to learn more about the variety of non-profits participating and volunteer opportunities available: Community Volunteer Booklet. NOVA Offices closed for 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!

NOVA offices, including campus testing centers, will be closed Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4, 2017.  ProctorU will be available during this time to take exams for courses that offer the online proctoring option.

Testing Center hours are subject to change so please visit the Testing Center Calendar when making your plans. Remember it is important to provide plenty of time to take the exam as there may be lines when you arrive.

NOVA Campus Offices will reopen Wednesday, July 5. Please plan accordingly.

Memorial Day!

NOVA campus offices, including the Campus Testing Centers, are closed today Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day!

Financial Avenue – Financial Literacy Contest: Twenty $100 NOVA bookstore gift cards towards educational costs at NOVA will be given-away throughout the 2016‐2017 academic year to randomly selected students ELI who successfully complete Financial Avenue web‐based financial literacy modules! Summer Tuition Payment

Graduation Application Deadline!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Northern Virginia Community College will be closed for  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16. This effects campus based courses, and offices, including the Testing Centers.  The college offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 17 at 8:00 am.

In observance of this day, we encourage to you consider making it a “Day On” instead of a day off. Join us for the 8th annual NOVA SERVES: MLK Day of Service. January 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Alexandria Campus. This year’s event will consist of assembling 35,000 food kits in partnership with the Stop Hunger Now organization and the Springfield Rotary Club.

 Bring canned goods and receive an official NOVA SERVES t-shirt.  Join the movement to end hunger in our lifetime.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time to register for spring semester courses if you haven’t done so already! ELI’s first spring session begins on Monday, January 9 and for many courses, additional sections are offered starting January 23, 30, or later. Check the full list of courses here.

If you register for spring courses on or after Tuesday, December 13, your payment is due by 5 p.m. the following business day.

Make sure you check your course enrollment to make sure your schedule is set.

Happy Thanksgiving

Northern Virginia Community College will be closed later this week for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Offices close Wednesday, November 23 at noon and will reopen on Monday, November 28 at 8:00 am.  This includes testing centers! Plan ahead!  Happy Thanksgiving

Prepare for Spring 2017 Registration

Thinking about an online course for Spring 2017 term? Spring registration is currently open. The online catalog is available in NOVAConnect now – search the online catalog to see what options you have for online courses. Registration closes at 11:59 pm the evening before the course start date, or when the course meets enrollment capacity.

ELI offers courses that begin on January 9, 23, 30, February 20 and March 13! Review the steps below to help you plan ahead to enroll on-time!

Plan ahead – Have any holds? Need to update your contact information? Request a final transcript or view your final grades? Run your advising report before working with your advisor? Log into your Student Center account (in NOVAConnect) for more information.

Be cleared of any prerequisites (if needed)

If you are attempting to enroll in a course at NOVA for which you believe you have successfully completed (a grade of “C“ or higher) the required prerequisite(s) at another regionally accredited institution, you will need to follow the instructions on the Visiting and Transient Student webpage to submit your (unofficial) transcript for review. Get Ready to Start your courses

Each course has a course site in Blackboard. Students are given access to the course specific link on the first day the course is scheduled to begin. Once you have access to your course in Blackboard, make sure to thoroughly review the course syllabus and course calendar (Overview of Assignments) to map out a plan for the course. Make sure you are comfortable with the pace of the course.

Understand online learning through ELI

Participate in the ELI Orientation webinar to get off to a strong start. This one hour live online instructor session will focus on getting started in your courses, navigating your Blackboard course site, and identifying tips for success and student support services. The ELI Orientation is highly recommended for students who are new to online learning. Register or Request a Recording Today!

Make sure you know your course start date and critical enrollment dates! Don’t miss your first assignment due date!

Take the Smarter Measure assessment to see how your personal learning styles will work with online courses.

Establish a Routine! All online courses, regardless of session length, are based on the full 16-week course material, so if you select 12, 8, or 4 week courses just know they will move at an accelerated pace.
