2018 – 2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available October 1, 2017 for students wishing to attend NOVA for the next academic school year starting Fall Term, 2018. Complete the FAFSA now at FAFSA.Ed.Gov.

File your FAFSA!
Students/parents have two options available when filing:
• Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) within the FAFSA to pull in their 2016 tax information (IRS DRT is available again for 2018-2019.); or
• Using the student’s/spouse’s or student’s/parents’ 2016 tax return information to key in the FAFSA financial information sections.

GETTING STARTED:
The key to accessing the greatest amount of available federal, state, and institutional grants and loans is to apply early. To get started, you will need to obtain an FSA ID to sign online at FSAID.Ed.Gov. (If you are a dependent student, a parent will need a separate FSA ID as well.)

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• This is an online process at FAFSA.Ed.Gov
• Our school code is 003727.
• Complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA (with 2016 tax info & IRS DRT) if you are planning to attend in Fall 2018, Spring 2019, or Summer 2019.

When NOVA financial aid receives your information, we will notify you if additional information is needed and/or send your award letter. Roughly 1/3 of our students are selected for verification—proving the information on the FAFSA–and must send additional documentation. Using IRS DRT greatly reduces that possibility.
While the primary responsibility of paying for a college education lies with the student and his or her family, we are available to assist you with accessing all financial assistance possible to offset the costs of a college education. All students attending Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for financial assistance. Students are required to be familiar with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy.

A business that charges for the FAFSA looks very much like it is from the Department of Education.  The correct site is www.FAFSA.gov.  NEVER pay to file the FAFSA or pay a consultant!!  The process is free!!
