Position Summary: The Landscape Designer & Installer (Designer) communicates with clients on a regular basis to about designing, scheduling, and installing projects. The Designer processes client information, schedules and attends meetings, takes photographs, draws designs, makes plant lists, and obtains the necessary project approvals. The Designer is responsible for identifying and estimating the costs of necessary supplies and materials for each project. The Designer is responsible for scheduling and communicating to both clients and the Landscape Foreman. The Designer also installs plants at the work site as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements detailed landscape plans, reads and follows scale drawings and cross-section designs
  • Supervises the planting and propagating bedding plants; may manage greenhouse operations, as applicable.
  • Direct activities on the job site including but not limited to: coordinating workflow, hands on work, and operating a variety of machinery.
  • Performs and coordinates a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in outdoor projects and worksites
  • Tracks and maintains files & paperwork.
  • Measures sites, creates scale drawings, cross section drawings and designs.
  • Calculates stormwater run-off, capacity, and assess water run-off predictability.
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Expert knowledge of plants, transplants, fertilizes, applies chemicals, waters, prunes, and weeds flower beds, plant areas, horticulture methods and materials, landscaping and cultivation of trees and woody plants.
  • Expert knowledge to maintains flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs, ability to use scientific plant names and understand rules for binomial nomenclature.
  • Knowledge of rain garden and bayscape maintenance, including downspout hook up, spillway, measuring berms, soil amendments, etc.
  • Ability to identify soil types and accurately assess correct amendments.
  • Knowledge of fertilizer and/or pesticide applications.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
  • Highly motivated, self – driven individual who is detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to both employees and clients.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Competent in the use of computers running MacOS and its software. Must know or learn how effectively use the Company’s email, field service, customer relationship management, and timekeeping systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and 3D design software as required.

General Description: Part time employee needed to attend to the watering and maintenance requirements in the Horticulture Program’s greenhouse and gardens on weekends, holidays, or when the Horticulturalist is unavailable. Employee will also be responsible for additional weeding and maintenance duties in the Horticulture Program teaching gardens and other related tasks as needed.

Duties and Tasks: Attends to watering needs of the greenhouse and gardens maintained by the Horticulture Program. Weeds, mulches, and performs related tasks when necessary.

Hours: 5-10 hours per month, mostly on weekends and holidays.

Pay: $15/hour
