Ballantrae Farm Estate Garden Intern
Part-time, Seasonal
Description: Opportunity to work with an experienced team of horticulturalists at a historic 6-acre, private garden. You would be involved in all aspects of the maintenance of a complex garden
featuring container plantings, layered perennial beds, woodland areas, formal garden rooms with clipped hedges, a pond and fountains, fruit trees and a vegetable garden, and mature
specimen trees.
Duties and responsibilities:
-General garden maintenance tasks- watering, weeding, raking, dividing, pruning, planting, fertilizing, disease and pest control
-Assisting with seasonal displays in annual beds and containers
-Maintaining and developing plantings in numerous perennial and woodland garden areas
-Provide support in all general maintenance of the property, including such duties as trash disposal, leaf and snow removal and occasional preparation for events.
Requirements/Preferences:
Basic horticulture knowledge and experience is required. Must be energetic and able to work in inclement weather, lift at least 40 pounds, bend, crouch, and stand for long periods of time. Prefer someone pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in horticulture or related field. This is a unique opportunity to work in the niche field of estate gardening. Convivial work environment. Must like dogs.
Job Type: Part-time/seasonal. 15-20 hours per week.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
