Part time gardener position

Are you interested in learning more about and working in native and sustainable landscapes? Metro Gardenworks is a boutique garden business that specializes in managing small gardens and landscapes in the DC metro area. The company was started in 2020 by NVCC horticulture program alum, Maraea Harris who is also a certified horticulturist, ISA certified arborist and a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional.

We have clients that range from residential through native school gardens and churches throughout Northern Virginia and the DC area. We work with clients in various ways from designing and planting native gardens to maintaining existing gardens all while moving clients toward more sustainable management techniques.

What do we need from you? You don’t need to be the most seasoned gardener but you need to be hard working, willing to learn and possibly learn to manage gardens differently than you may be used to doing. There are often only 2 or 3 of us on a site so this would be a good fit for someone with a good  attitude who can work in small teams and also work independently when needed.

What do you get out of this? Besides a paycheck, you can significantly expand your knowledge and identification skills of weeds, native plants, trees and learn more about sustainable landscape management techniques. Sustainable landscapes are the direction of the future and working with an up and coming company to learn the ropes is a great way to get started. We are also one of the few companies that is skilled in hand pruning of small trees and shrubs and this would be a great opportunity to learn this underrepresented but highly valuable skill.
