Internships at Green Spring Gardens

Green Spring Gardens is offering three horticulture internships this summer. This includes two ‘Horticulture’ Interns and one ‘Virginia Native Plant’ Intern. This would work for your HRT 297 requirement! Many of our student have done internships with Green Spring Gardens. See flyers attached below for all information. Summer Gardener Positions at Dumbarton Oaks

There are three gardener positions at Dumbarton Oaks this Summer. This would count for the HRT 297 credit requirement!

Internships- Earth Sangha

The amazing Native Plant Heroes at Earth Sangha have just announced two internship opportunities for 2024!

The first is the 2024 Full Season Native Plant Conservation Internship. There is one available position for this opportunity, and responsibilities include working in Wild Plant Nursery, removing invasives in restoration sites, assistant supervising of volunteers, and the potential for field work throughout the region! This position is January through December with a schedule of about 20 hours a week at $16 an hour.

The second is the 2024 Summer Native Plant Conservation Internship. This position is June through August with a schedule of about 20 hours a week at $16 an hour.

Orchid Exhibit Internship- Smithsonian Gardens

One of the most prestigious institutions in the country has reached out to us here at NVCC Horticulture to find interns for an upcoming internship opportunity… If you’ve ever been to downtown DC you probably already know who I’m talking about. That’s right THE Smithsonian Gardens is looking to find an intern for their Orchid Exhibit. This opportunity provides an intern with experience managing and caring for the Smithsonian Gardens Orchid Collection (SGOC), including exhibition, public programming, social media management, daily collection care, collections management, and interior plant maintenance.

Part Time Gardeners- Green Spring Garden

The fabulous Green Spring Garden that you know and love from Professor Dickson’s Plant ID courses, the same Green Spring Garden that is meticulously managed by a NOVA Horticulture Alumni, is looking to hire a part-time gardener! You’re in luck though! Not only are they hiring one part-time gardener, but they actually have 2 open part-time gardener positions! One is for 900 hours per year, which maths out to about 18 hours per week, and one for 1,560 hours per year, which maths out to about 30 hours a week. The pay and the positions are great especially if you’re still working your way through the program so do not hesitate to apply!

Nursery Associate- Earth Sangha

Are you passionate about native plants? Are you looking for an opportunity to advocate for native plants in the landscape?
Earth Sangha is looking for a nursery associate! In this position, you would help with conservation and propagation in their Wild Plant Nursery, which is the region’s largest local ecotype plant propagation effort! The nursery associates day to day responsibilities include the care and propagation of native plants, the overall organization of the Wild Plant Nursery, and working with plant passionate volunteers!

They’re looking to hire someone for this position to start this summer. It is a permanent part-time position that includes health insurance, retirement, and accrued paid time off with a salary of $18/hour.

Temporary Summer Gardener- Dumbarton Oaks

Dunbarton Oaks, located in Washington D.C. and trustee for Harvard University, is looking for an experienced seasonal gardener! They’re looking to fill a full-time, term position not to exceed six months. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in working at Dumbarton Oaks, or wishing to gain additional experience in historic landscape gardening. While this position is limited to a six-month term, this candidate could be a strong internal candidate for future permanent gardening positions. So if you’re looking to dip your toes in the water, or looking for a summer job between semesters, this could be the position for you! This position is also eligible to be utilized for HRT 297 Cooperative Education credit if you still need to it fulfill your graduation requirements!
