Paid Internship (AmeriCorps) as crew leader in the DC National Capital Region – Invasive Plant Management Program

See below for details about a paid internship opportunity (this is an AmeriCorps – Appalachian Conservation Corps Position) in Washington, D.C. for upcoming grads and alumni interested in conservation, GIS, invasive species removal, biology and other related fields:

Our Invasive Plant Management Lead Individual Placements will work with the NPS National Capital Region to supervise a field crew controlling invasive plant species with mechanical and chemical control methods.

This 49-week internship runs from Jan. 13th, 2025 to Dec. 19th, 2025 and is based out of Washington, D.C. Since housing is not provided, we are seeking candidates within a commutable distance to the D.C. office. Since this is a full-time internship, we are seeking alumni and recent grads with experience in field work.

This position pays $800/week and the intern will also receive a $6,895 AmeriCorps Segal Education award upon successful completion that can be used to pay back federal student loans or for additional schooling.

I am reaching out to share upcoming internship opportunities for folks right out of high school or college with an interest in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Ecology or other similar fields.

Appalachian Conservation Corps is currently recruiting for over 20 internships at National Parks and Battlefields in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. You can check them out on our Individual Placement page under Open Positions (Individual Placements | Appalachian Conservation Corps (appalachiancc.org)). These are paid AmeriCorps internships, with a Segal Education Award upon completion, which can be applied to federal loans or for further education. Our internships range in size from 3-month, summer positions ​– ideal for current students – to year-long positions – ideal for upcoming graduates and alumni.

I’ve highlighted some positions below that might be of interest to your students, alumni or connections:

  • Resource Management and Maintenance IP at Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, MD– Work with park staff on maintenance and natural resources field projects.
  • Buffers Assessment IP with Appalachian Conservation Corps in Mount Crawford, VA– Help ACC Watershed Corps assess sites and develop plans for riparian forest buffers.
  • Summer Resource Management and Maintenance IP at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD– Help NPS staff complete a wide variety of field projects.
