Scholarship- Val and Bill Tillett Scholarship APPLICATION EXTENSION!!!!

NOVA Students have an application deadline extension for the following scholarship! Previous NOVA Horticulture Students have received this scholarship so don’t hesitate to apply- especially since there was more time given to do so! You have until April 18th!!!

Val and Bill Tillett Scholarship
Founded by Bill and Val Tillett | Est. Scholarship: $2,000

Criteria: Recipient must be attending Northern Virginia Community College seeking a degree within the school’s Horticulture program. Award priority includes Loudoun County residence as well as financial need; residents of Prince William, Fairfax, Alexandria, and Arlington will be considered. Both full-time and part-time applicants may apply. Once selected, an applicant may apply for a second consecutive year of scholarship support with re-application and at least a 2.5 GPA or C+ or higher.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Completed general application form; 250-words essay sharing “Why a degree in Horticulture Technology or Landscape Design Specialization is a good fit for me,” or, “My financial challenges to attend school;” letter of recommendation from the Program Head or teacher in the NOVA Community College’s Horticulture program; FAFSA/1040, and grade transcripts required.

Horticulture Club’s Spring Plant Sale is Back! April 11 and 13

NOVA’s Horticulture Club and Program is excited to announce the return of its annual plant sale in the Loudoun Campus greenhouse! This year, we’re selling new varieties of annuals, bedding plants, and indoor plants that we’ve never before carried! This includes more options for shade and greater color diversity. There are 13 different types of plants to choose from including Geraniums, Angelonia, Torenia, and New Guinea Impatiens. Each 5.5” student-grown plant will be $10 and we can only accept payment by cash or check. The greenhouse will be open on Tuesday and ThursdayApril 11 and 13 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. If you’re unable to come out to the Loudoun campus greenhouse, the Horticulture Club will also be participating in this year’s Leesburg Flower and Garden festival! You can find their booth at the intersection of Kings St and Market St in downtown Leesburg, as well as week full of fun and flowers!

NOVA Corps- Paid Student Interns

NOVA Corps, a paid student internship program through the vice president of enrollment management and student success (VPEMSS) is recruiting current students to help prospective, new, and current students start and finish strong at NOVA. The mission of NOVA Corps is to develop NOVA students’ professional job skills while also providing peer-to-peer support.

Student interns will perform a variety of customer-service duties in support of educational programs, including providing general information to students on a variety of programs, activities and procedures related to admissions, enrollment, college programs and activities. They will work primarily in person (face to face), as well as through telephone, email and/or online chat. They will be trained to provide information on NOVA’s application for admission, registration and general financial aid processes, assistance in navigating the student information system (SIS) and Canvas. They will also assist with campus tours, virtual lobby, new student orientation, etc.

Interns should be able to provide courteous, friendly and knowledgeable service to other students. They will be trained to provide clear, consistent, up-to-date and accurate information. They will attend team meetings, read emails and the College website and utilize current job aids.

There will be a mandatory, one-week on-site training located in NOVA’s Fairfax, Va. offices.
