First Legacy Lecture: A New Valued Tradition

[twocol_one]Terrence Doyle, professor of communication studies, was selected by the Annandale Campus to deliver the first Legacy Lecture. The lecture took place on April 20 in the CE Forum of the Annandale Campus. The Legacy Lecture was established to honor a distinguished retiring senior faculty member. Doyle has taught at NOVA since 1989 and has been one of the most innovative developers of online and hybrid teaching methods. He is the author of several books including “Communication Unbound,” an online textbook.

Professor Duncan Tebow, a colleague of Doyle’s, introduced him. Doyle delivered a robust lecture which included three platitudes: (1) embrace the new and integrate it with the old, judiciously, (2) practice presence in face-toface dialogue and (3) deep understanding is the pathway to persuasion.

It was a wonderful experience for all who attended.[/twocol_one]
