On June 3, Professor Emeritus and Associate Professor of Chemistry Rebecca Reister passed away at her home in Sterling, Virginia. Reister taught at the Loudoun Campus from 1974 until her retirement in 2006. She was very active in her discipline, publishing research results and attending national and international symposia. She was a planner and presenter at NOVA’s Science Across the Curriculum project which was supported by the Fund for the Improvement of Post-secondary Education. She also developed “Science Today,” a science course for Loudoun County elementary school teachers. She was on the Steering Committee for the county and state science fairs, and served as a judge for several years at the fairs. Reister chaired the Two-Year College Committee of the Chemical Society of Washington and served for several years as the chair of the chemistry cluster at the College. She will truly be missed.
