Woodbridge Business Assistant Participates in Recycled Card Program

For the past four years Ash De Furia (WO), assistant to the business manager, has collected used greeting cards as part of the Recycled Card Program for the St. Jude Ranch for Children. The program started over 30 years ago as a way for children to re-use the previous year’s Christmas cards. The children at the ranch create a new card by taking the front part of the old card and attaching it to new cardstock. The cards are then sold in the St. Jude’s Ranch Gift Shop & Resale Boutique with the proceeds benefitting abused and neglected children. The program also teaches the children business skills and helps the environment by recycling and going “green.”

De Furia heard about the program from a former faculty member in the Woodbridge Natural Science and Mathematics Division and decided to keep the outreach effort going by leading the cause on campus. Throughout the year, De Furia collects a variety of cards (except Hallmark, Disney and American Greetings), from birthday to get-well cards, and ships them to the Ranch in Nevada.
