“I am excited about my new position because it’s a position that ‘minds the gap’ between academics and operations activities,” Lowe said. “I look forward to bringing ideas and solutions to help facilitate an innovative, streamlined service environment for both internal and external customers of the campus. My background in academic and research operations at various types of educational institutions gives me a unique perspective on choosing the right solution for challenges that may occur.”
Lowe comes to NOVA from George Mason University where she was director of laboratory safety and environmental compliance, responsible for management and oversight of university-wide compliance programs for all campuses and satellite locations. Among other duties, she supervised all lab safety officers, technical and administrative staff; developed and modified all lab safety related training; managed administrative functions for lab safety and environmental management committees; and was responsible for budget management and annual strategic planning.
Before Mason, she held compliance management and safety officer positions at several other major institutions including the Janalia Farm Research Campus (Howard Hughes Medical Institute), American Type Culture Collection and Rockefeller University.
Lowe holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in biology and environmental management from the University of Maryland College Park. She is currently in a M.B.A./M.S. dual degree program in environmental management at the University of Maryland University College.
The Manassas Campus director of Operations is the chief operating officer for the Campus. The director provides direct support to the provost for the management and/or coordination of non-academic functions of the campus, such as campus-based budget planning and management, facilities planning, space management, emergency and safety planning/management, and special project management related to campus needs.
In addition, the director acts as a liaison between the campus and the college offices of Financial Services and Administrative Services to ensure effective coordination and completion of essential campus projects. Ultimately, the director will help create an environment in which excellent customer service is clearly evident and design campus operations to provide the best possible learning and working environment for students, employees and guests.
