Professor Kathryn O’Sullivan, head of the Manassas Campus Theatre Program, just returned from a busy weekend at the LA Web Series Festival. During the three-day conference, O’Sullivan and her husband-collaborator, Paul Awad, spoke about web series on two panels; screened their web series, “Thurston,” twice; and picked up awards for Outstanding Achievement (Best Drama Web Series) and Outstanding Achievement in Acting for lead actress Catherine Frels.
In addition, “Thurston” was selected from more than 10,000 entries as an Official Honoree of the 16th Annual Webby Awards in the Best Individual Performance category. Presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
Last month O’Sullivan gave an enlightening interview about this evolving genre on the NPR show “With Good Reason.” Available at http://withgoodreasonradio.org/2012/04/a-western-on-the-web/, the interview mentions NOVA several times.
“Thurston” is a Western drama about residents of a remote mining town and their struggle for survival in the Kansas Ozarks. The series airs exclusively on the SFN Online Television Network (http://www.sfntv.com/). To learn more, go to www.thurston-series.com or contact O’Sullivan at email@example.com.
