Professor Shaffer and studentsOn September 27, Annandale Professor Deborah Shaffer took 27 members of her Environmental Sciences class to the Oakton campus of the Unity of Fairfax Church on Hunter Mill Road. The purpose of their visit, which was hosted by members of EarthCare Team, was to observe work done by the church in their storm water management project over the past seven years. The students observed a green vegetative roof, nine flower gardens attracting pollinators, and riparian buffer and detention pond for water entering the Rocky Run stream. This project was selected by the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District to participate in the Fairfax County Storm Water Watershed Friendly Garden Tour.
