Woodbridge Honors Students Debate Controversial Topic

Woodbridge honors faculty member Vincent Ng organized a debate on the topic “Parents Should Be Allowed to Screen Fetuses for Inheritable Diseases.” On October 24, approximately 100 interested students and faculty gathered in the Woodbridge Campus Theatre to hear two debate teams from Ng’s honors biology class.

The debate format modeled those held at the Oxford Union. Ng, who attended many of these debates, said, “It was actually one of the best educational experiences that I’ve had from my undergraduate studies at Oxford in England. I hope to bring some of that experience here to Woodbridge and encourage discussion among students and faculty to enhance the overall collegiate environment.”

Honors faculty LeeAnn Thomas, Susan Thompson and Charles Errico served as judges and each member of the winning team received $25 gift certificates, courtesy of the College Honors Program.
