Sigma Delta Mu (SDM), the Spanish Honor Society, hosted its annual Induction Ceremony on October 2 at the Annandale Campus. The first Chapter of SDM in Virginia was established in 2010 by Dr. Alicia M. de la Torre Falzon (AN), who is a professor of Spanish within the Division of Languages and Literature. Falzon continues to serve as advisor to the group. SDM was originally founded within Sigma Delta Pi which is now the nation’s largest foreign language honor society. After developing a broader membership, SDM itself was recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Members mentor high school students, organize fundraisers, and focus on developing their professional and personal leadership skills. The group also seeks to recognize those who excel in their knowledge of the Spanish language and its literature and culture, and to cultivate a continuing and profound respect for these among college students. Inductees for the October ceremony included Eduardo Altuna, Rachel Araiza, Crystal Bishop, Cristina Cervantes, Eddie Severoni, Kala Maybury and Chase Walker.
Congratulations to each new SDM member!
