During the first week of October, the Annandale Achieving the Dream (ATD) team sponsored Annandale Student Success Week with three highly successful activities. These activities were a student video contest, a student resource fair and a celebration of alumni success.
In response to the video contest theme “How does NOVA help you invest in your future,” students recorded their stories of how NOVA has helped them develop as a student and a person. Contest entries were judged by Professors Emeriti Bill Kinsella, Wally Hutcheon and Ellen Johnson. After a viewing of the winning videos, the four winners were awarded their choice of a NOOK or a NOVA parking pass for the spring semester by Annandale Provost Barbara Saperstone. The winning students are Christopher Horneman, Barbara Montgomery, Elizabeth Onyejekwe and Quynh An Ton Nu.
On October 2, the Student Resource Fair drew a large number of students who received information about resources for students on the Annandale Campus. Students also talked to representatives from a variety of campus services, including learning and technology support services, counseling, disability services, transfer center, veterans affairs, honor’s program, Phi Theta Kappa, ATD and NOVACARES.
The final event, “Stories of Student Success,” was a gathering of NOVA alumni who shared their stories of the role NOVA played in their present day success. The 18 alumni shared memories of the impact that NOVA had on their lives with the over 70 students and 20 faculty and staff in attendance. Students were then able to talk individually with the alumni about further educational pursuits and regarding careers.
The Annandale ATD team thanks all faculty and staff who participated in Student Success Week and helped to make it a success.
